The brief for Bellevue, our whole-home project here in La Jolla, was a home that feels welcoming the moment you walk through the door. Layered furnishings, fixtures, drapery, and wall treatments were curated room by room to enhance the home's existing beauty, from the marble fireplace in the front sitting room to the olive-green dining room to the covered California room out back. Warm, finished, and harmonious in every room.

Bellevue's furnishing carried straight through to the California room: a covered outdoor living room with its own fireplace, cane-back seating, and linen chosen to shrug off the marine layer.

Interior Design for La Jolla Homes
The architecture here has been part of daily life for over a century, since Irving Gill drew his clean lines above the Cove and the Village grew up around La Valencia's pink stucco. You see the inheritance on every street: Spanish Revival landmarks along Prospect Street, mid-century homes tucked into the Muirlands below Mount Soledad, the low-slung coastal houses of Bird Rock and the Barber Tract, the easy indoor-outdoor life of the Shores near Scripps Pier. A renovation here happens inside that inheritance, and it should read that way when it's finished.

Interior Design Process
01. Inquiry +
Phase One begins when you reach out, followed by a warm introduction to Joey Snow Design Co. and a phone consultation to understand your goals and scope. An in-home visit allows us to experience your space and lifestyle firsthand. From there, we prepare a tailored proposal, complete onboarding, and schedule your project start date, ensuring clarity, alignment, and a seamless foundation for the design journey ahead.
03. Design Phase +
With the foundation in place, we move into the creative development of your design. We shape floor plans and elevations through detailed 3D modeling and establish the look and feel through curated mood boards. Following review and refinement, we present the preliminary design and guide you through selected hard surfaces and furnishings, thoughtfully incorporating your feedback. Once designs are approved, we transition into procurement and monthly billing, ensuring a seamless path toward execution.
05. Construction Documentation +
As construction progresses, we produce a comprehensive set of thorough documents, including detailed drawings, elevations, and specifications to support a smooth build. A complete specification book is provided for precise execution, while final design invoices are issued.
07. Installation +
As your interior design project enters its final stage, we schedule installation and collect any remaining payments, preparing for a flawless transformation. Our team gathers and installs all items, bringing the layers of the approved concept to life. Upon completion, we conduct a client reveal and walkthrough to review every detail together, then finalize invoices before parting ways so that you can enjoy your beautiful, highly personalized home.
02. Design Intake +
Once onboarded, we establish the foundation for your project. We provide a clear timeline, defined scope, and access to our collaborative tools, then gather detailed insight into your style, needs, and space. With this understanding, we prepare your floor plans within our rendering software, creating clarity, accuracy, and a shared design vision moving forward.
04. Procurement & Purchasing +
Once selections are approved, our interior design studio will source and price all materials, organizing them within our project management system for full transparency and budget tracking. We coordinate specifications with your contractor, present final proposals for approval, and collect payment prior to ordering. As items are procured and timelines align with construction, we prepare for installation.
06. Project Management +
Our project management services provide thoughtful guidance and dedicated supervision from start to finish. We deliver the Construction Book, collaborate with your contractor, and offer hands-on oversight through key site visits to confirm every detail aligns with the approved design. This approach maintains quality, momentum, and peace of mind throughout this phase.

Joey Snow is the founder and principal designer of Joey Snow Design Co., a full-service interior design studio based in Carlsbad. She and her team design whole-home renovations and new construction throughout Carlsbad and North County San Diego, with select projects across Orange County and Southern California.

Yes, more than one. Bellevue, our whole-home project, was furnished and styled top to bottom right here in La Jolla, and we have additional completed work in the historic streets of La Jolla Hermosa, between Bird Rock and the Village. How long does a whole-home renovation take in La Jolla? +
Full-service projects average three to six months; large construction projects, common with the Village's older homes and the Muirlands' mid-century stock, typically run nine months or more. You'll receive a defined timeline during design intake.
Is your studio far from La Jolla? +
We're about thirty minutes north at 5671 Palmer Way, Suite A, Carlsbad, open Monday through Friday, 9 to 5, and La Jolla sits well within our regular service area, along with Del Mar and the rest of the coast. The studio doubles as our curated home goods shoppe, and it's worth the drive up Torrey Pines Road.
